The Bordon Food Bank

The Bordon Food Bank have always supported and provided for those in our town who need it most. However, over recent times the number of people needing help has grown considerably. Food Bank Manager, Heather Ford talks through how the Food Bank has adapted to the growing needs of our community.

The Bordon Food Bank in the last 13 weeks has quadrupled its Client List. Which has meant we have been extremely busy and had to buy in some food with donations from people. We currently give out each week over £1,000 worth of food we have 40 people some of which require delivery because they are housebound.

We have been operating on a Wednesday with just a small bubble of 8 people due to a social distancing, but we have a system that seems to work very efficiently. This is due of course to our superb team and how they managed to social distance and work really hard at the same time. Each week we have other people coming along for help, but we are coping well.

We currently open on a Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday all day until 3 and Thursday afternoon. This requires having three teams of volunteers. This works very well having three individual bubbles that work very well together and we will be adding to them but not just at the moment.

As time goes on and things change again, we foresee the need increasing for Foodbank. At the moment there are no plans to open on a Saturday as we did before, but this might be necessary in the future.

We are extremely grateful for all the donations of food, help and funds during this difficult time, it has helped us at the food bank to provide for those that need our help at this present time.’

The Food Bank are excepting donations, both food and financial. If you can donate, you can drop food at the following locations: Tesco Bordon Forest Community Centre – Tuesday 10am -12noon Food bank (Forest Centre Bordon) – Tuesday 1pm – 4pm, Wednesday and Thursday 1pm – 3pm.
