Our community station has taken important steps this month to enhance health and wellbeing for everyone who visits or lives nearby. With new safety equipment installed and educational events held, the station is becoming a hub for learning and support. These efforts show how local spaces can play a vital role in keeping people safe and informed.

New Safety Equipment at the Station
One of the most significant updates is the installation of a defibrillator and a bleed control kit. These tools are essential in emergencies where quick action can save lives.
Defibrillator: This device helps restore a normal heartbeat during sudden cardiac arrest. It is designed for use by anyone, even without medical training, thanks to clear voice instructions.
Bleed Control Kit: This kit contains supplies to stop severe bleeding, such as tourniquets, bandages, and gloves. It is crucial for managing injuries before professional help arrives.
Having these tools readily available at the station means that community members and visitors can respond immediately to critical health situations. The presence of this equipment also raises awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness.
Informative Day Led by CAHMS
On Wednesday 8th July, the station hosted a well-attended event led by CAHMS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). The day focused on mental health awareness and support strategies.
Key highlights included:
Supporting Your Autistic Child
Support for SEN in Education
Understanding ADHD.
The event created a supportive environment where community members could learn and share experiences. It also emphasised the connection between mental wellbeing and overall health.

We are very aware that there is great need for sessions like these so please see the date for the next workshops.

First Aid Courses Begin at the Station
Saturday marked the start of first aid courses run by Mini First Aid, Portsmouth and Chichester. These sessions provide hands-on training for basic emergency response skills.
Course features:
CPR training including how to use the defibrillator.
Managing bleeding and wounds using the new bleed control kit.
Handling choking and other common emergencies.
Certification upon completion, useful for work, school, or personal knowledge.
The courses are open to all ages and skill levels. Details and registration information are available on the station’s website. These classes empower individuals to act confidently in emergencies, potentially saving lives.

Why These Initiatives Matter
Health emergencies can happen anywhere, and immediate response often makes the difference between life and death. By equipping the station with emergency tools and offering training, the community gains:
Increased safety in a familiar, accessible location.
Greater confidence among residents to help others.
Stronger community bonds through shared learning and support.
These initiatives also highlight the importance of mental health alongside physical health, promoting a more holistic approach to wellbeing.
How You Can Get Involved
Everyone can play a role in building a safer, healthier community. Here are some ways to participate:
Learn first aid by signing up for courses at the station.
Familiarise yourself with the location of the defibrillator and bleed control kit.
Attend future mental health awareness events to stay informed.
Encourage friends and family to get trained and involved.
Volunteer to help organise or support community health activities.
Taking these steps helps create a network of prepared individuals ready to assist in emergencies.
Looking Ahead
The station’s health and wellbeing initiatives are just the beginning. Plans for future events and expanded training opportunities are underway. The goal is to make the station a central point for community health education and emergency readiness.
By continuing to build on these efforts, the community will become stronger and more resilient. Everyone benefits when people feel safe, supported, and equipped to handle health challenges.
These recent developments at the community station demonstrate how local action can improve health outcomes. Whether through new equipment, educational events, or training courses, the station is becoming a place where wellbeing is actively supported. Visit the station’s website to learn more about upcoming programs and how you can join in. Together, we can make a difference in our community’s health and safety.
